Position Title: Youth Mentoring Assistant Director
Organization: Richland-Wilkin Kinship
Reports to: Executive Director & Board of Directors
Hours: Part-time, 20+ hours/week as needed (flexible hours; occasional evenings and weekends required)
Compensation: Hourly; rate negotiable based on experience, education, and qualifications
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director supports the mission of Richland-Wilkin Kinship by helping create opportunities and support for youth through the power of mentoring. This role works closely with the Executive Director to oversee programs, fundraising operations, financial management, and community engagement. The Assistant Director plays a vital role expanding the organization’s visibility and sustainability. The key responsibilities listed below are shared in collaboration with the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance & Administration
Oversee day-to-day financial operations: process bills, deposits, and receipts
Prepare monthly financial reports for board meetings
Track and report personal work hours, expenses, and mileage
Manage mailings for youth birthdays and mentor match anniversaries
Create a Monthly Newsletter and Calendar of community events
Program Management – Mentoring Services
All mentoring operations must align with best practices in the field.
Recruit and engage adult volunteer mentors
Screen and train new mentor applicants
Interview youth participants, families and/or referral sources
Coordinate and host Mentor Match meetings with adult volunteers, youth & their family
Provide ongoing case management and match support
Assist with planning, execution of and hosting monthly events
Maintain records in the mentoring database
Collect and compile program data for grant writing and annual reports
Community Engagement & Outreach
Represent Kinship in community organizations (e.g., Chamber of Commerce or Service Clubs)
Explore collaborations with community partners to increase awareness and support
Coordinate public relations efforts: submit content to newspapers, radio, etc.
Give presentations to service clubs, churches, corporations, and other community groups
Monitor and update the website; ensure accurate mentoring content is posted
Assist with planning and execution of special events (e.g., Shop at Home Event, Amazing Race, mentor appreciation banquet)
Identify and implement volunteer recruitment strategies to grow mentor base
Create marketing materials and assist in managing social media accounts
Fundraising & Development
Support strategic fundraising initiatives
Assist with large mailings and donor campaigns
Research and write grant proposals relevant to the Kinship mission
Recruit, invoice, and manage Business Partner program
Collaborate with the Board of Directors and attend/facilitate monthly board meetings
Additional Duties
Attend the Annual Kinship Inc. Conference
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred
Background in social work, human services, youth development, or related nonprofit work
Basic accounting and computer proficiency (Google Drive, QuickBooks, Canva etc.)
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Public speaking, grant writing, and fundraising experience is desirable
Strategic thinker with strong networking skills
Creative, flexible, and able to adapt to changing needs
Experience working with diverse populations strongly preferred
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
